Nestled amidst the whispering pines and the gentle embrace of nature, Youngblood Country Cabins offers a great escape to the Ouachita Mountains among some of its most impressive peaks. We had the pleasure of spending a weekend at one of their charming cabins, and it was exactly what we needed.
Arrival: A Warm Welcome
As we drove into the property, the serenity of the landscape instantly enveloped us. The vibrant greens of the forest contrasted beautifully with the beautifully crafted wooden cabins along a short dirt road. We stayed in the Couples Cabin, nestled into the woods and only footsteps away from the property's walking trail.
The Cabin: Cozy Comforts of the Couples Cabin
We settled into our uniquely decorated cabin, which had comfy furniture and cozy touches that made it feel like a home away from home. The large windows offered stunning views of the sprawling forest, and we found ourselves captivated by the sound of chirping birds and rustling leaves. The front porch was an awesome spot for evening activities, and we took time to carve pumpkins on the first night to celebrate the fall season!

The kitchen was well-equipped, allowing us to whip up comfort food for our cozy nights. We gathered on the porch each evening and shared stories under a blanket of stars. My favorite part of the evenings was the hand-crafted cocktails we brought, which we could create effortlessly with the bar set up in the cabin. The Youngbloods thought of it all!
Exploring Nature: A Fly Fishing Adventure Awaits
If you're seeking to satisfy your fernweh—a longing for distant places—look no further than the tranquil waters of the Cossatot River in Arkansas. Renowned for its stunning scenery and diverse fishing opportunities, the river offers several access points that cater to avid anglers. Ed Banks provides a convenient spot for easy entry and features some excellent stretches for casting your line. Just down the way, the Sandbar area is perfect for those looking for a serene experience where you can relax and fish amidst the gentle sounds of nature. Cossatot Falls impresses with its cascading waters and the thrill of casting for smallmouth in a picturesque setting. But be sure to be ready for the hike back to the car. It's definitely like bouldering to get down the river!
Fly fishing is an immersive experience that I love to do anywhere. But there's something so special about the Cossatot River in that it's genuinely a remote place. Your phone doesn't dig with notifications, and there's no road noise for the entirety of the afternoon.
My friend Tayler joined me on this trip. This was her first time fly fishing. And if you fly fish much, you know that is a frustrating experience. After teaching her a roll cast and discovering more ways to get her fly out in the river, she successfully caught a fish on the first day! It was an awesome experience. She now sports her red woolly bugger with pride on her ball cap. Memorable moments are made on this river! It's a must-see in the natural state.
A Piece of Paradise
If you're seeking a getaway that allows you to embrace nature, indulge in cozy comforts, and create unforgettable memories, look no further than Youngblood Country Cabins. It truly is a hidden gem, and we can't wait to return to this slice of paradise. Who knew that Wickes, Arkansas, would be a favorite destination?
