Fit for the Outdoors

How do you stay fit for your adventures? What does that look like?

Health and fitness fluctuate in life, just like everything else. We have an incredible gym streak, and then you binge on ice cream one night and skip the next day. Or you go on a vacation and don't watch what you're eating for a whole week. But there is a balance, too.

Our health and fitness routine is different from month to month. We ride our streaks strong and own our downfalls when they pop upon us.

We have set goals to encourage our long-term goals and are working weekly to meet those goals. But behind big goals have to be big rewards and destinations. For the next two months, we are working to be "out west fit." We made this up, kinda. A lot of our big adventures require long days, hard hikes, and stunning views. In order to truly enjoy the stunning views and experiences, you have to be able to make it to the top of the mountain!

Our weekly workout routines consist of prioritizing our time to make sure we have 45 minutes to be at the gym. Thankfully the gym is only a 15-minute drive away. But some mornings that looks like waking up at 5 am, other days it looks like waking up at 9 am, and others it means staying up later than normal. 45 minutes can make a difference!

We also create a routine for us to follow throughout our week. This routine may take days of research before we land on one we like for ourselves. My workout routine is doing cardio 3 days a week and strength training the other 3 days a week with a rest day. I prioritize my legs in all of these workouts. In my opinion, strong legs are the difference between a nice hike and a miserable hike.

Regardless of what your routine, or what you want your routine to look like, the key is sticking to it. That is where I struggle. The day in and day out grind of being better. That is where the long-term goal plays in. The views out west are worth grinding for here in Arkansas.

A lot of our good times are valued because of the hard work that went into creating them. So create your good time and celebrate when you've reached the goal. For now, we encourage you to go and follow your fernweh. Following your fernweh may look like being at the gym every day, eating healthy, creating long term goals, and chasing dreams you've had for too long.

So be inspired! And GO!
