Ultimate Girls' Getaway: Exploring Monteagle, TN's Hidden Gems and Outdoor Adventures

Staying at Bear Creek Hollow Retreat in Monteagle, TN, was an unforgettable experience. Tucked away in the scenic hills, the retreat offered a perfect blend of tranquility and adventure. We stayed in the Black Bear Room next door to their event center. The Black Bear Room exudes a cozy charm that immediately envelops you with warmth and comfort as soon as you walk into the door. The room's spacious layout and thoughtfully curated amenities provide the perfect setting for relaxation, while the large windows offer views of the surrounding natural beauty of the Cumberland Plateau. Cathy and I took this trip specifically to explore South Cumberland State Park.

South Cumberland State Park, located on the Cumberland Plateau, is a nature lover's paradise. This expansive park spans over 30,000 acres and offers a diverse range of outdoor activities, including hiking, rock climbing, camping, and bird watching. Visitors can explore stunning waterfalls, lush forests, and scenic overlooks, providing ample opportunities for photography and relaxation. With its rugged beauty and rich biodiversity, South Cumberland State Park is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an immersive outdoor experience in Tennessee. Hiking at South Cumberland State Park provided an exhilarating challenge. Venturing onto the most strenuous trail I've ever attempted, I was met with breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment as I conquered the rugged terrain. The hike culminated in a visit to Raven's Point, where I was rewarded with a stunning panoramic vista that made every step worth it. The park's rugged beauty left me in awe and fueled my desire to seek more adventures in this remarkable area. Only the walk back to the car and the 4.5-mile section of a boulder field had me doubting if it was worth it all. But it definitely was!

Gravel cycling around Sewanee, TN, is a refreshing experience with its scenic routes and challenging terrain. Exploring the backroads and trails on two wheels allows for a deep immersion into the area's natural beauty. After a satisfying day of cycling, stopping at Lunch is a must. The casual and welcoming atmosphere of Lunch is the perfect setting to refuel with delicious, locally sourced food. Whether it's a hearty sandwich, a fresh salad, or a comforting bowl of soup, Lunch offers a delightful dining experience that complements the outdoor adventure in Sewanee. I was a big fan of the tomato sandwich, but be flexible! Their menu changes weekly.

One of the trip's highlights was trying fly fishing on the Elk River for the first time. As a novice angler, I was captivated by the serene beauty of the river and the thrill of catching my first fish. The experience left me eager to explore more of the river and its tributaries, and I began to plan my next fly fishing trip in the area.

This trip to Bear Creek Hollow Retreat and South Cumberland State Park has truly inspired me to embark on more adventures in the South Cumberland area of TN. The natural beauty and the sense of exploration have left an indelible mark on me. I am already planning my next visit to uncover more hidden gems and experience the thrill of outdoor adventures in this captivating region.
